Performs duties described in the United States Department of Transportation/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration position description for EMT including responding to requests from the public for emergency medical assistance, examining, assessing and stabilizing patients at the point of call and during transport to the appropriate point of entry.I. Major Responsibilities: 1. Administers skilled medical care to individuals in response to calls for emergency treatment in accordance with the Massachusetts EMS Pre-Hospital Treatment protocols. Examines, assesses, and stabilizes patients at emergency scene, i.e., hemorrhage control, treatment for shock, immobilization of fractures, bandaging, proper treatment for burns, poisoning, or drug overdose, manages gynecological emergencies, delivers newborn, manages mentally disturbed patient, etc. Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities: 1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives. All responsibilities are essential job functions. II. Position Qualifications: License/Certification/Education: Experience/Skills: Preferred: Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents. III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions: Work is considered heavy. Position requires work outdoors in a patient care environment.
