THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Mail Inspector who is ready to take on meaningful and detail-focused work. This position offers a steady routine while helping keep the facility safe by reviewing and processing important incoming and outgoing mail. You will play a key role in protecting staff, inmates, and the institution from contraband. This is a great opportunity for someone who values careful work and wants to make a real difference.



DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position ensures the safe and accurate processing of all incoming and outgoing mail for SCI Forest. The role helps maintain facility security by inspecting items, documenting activities, and coordinating deliveries. As a Corrections Mail Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

  • Mail Inspection: Examine publications, packages, and other items from postal and courier services to detect contraband
  • Delivery Coordination: Retrieve mail and deliver admissible items to designated areas using approved equipment
  • Record Keeping: Maintain logs of inmate property and ensure documentation is accurate and compliant
  • Request Response: Respond to inmate request forms and provide information in a timely manner
  • Policy Awareness: Stay current with changes to regulations and procedures that affect mail processing

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of clerical experience, including one year in the field of corrections; or
  • Any combination of experience and/or training which provides the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
