THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person with the required experience to work as Corrections Food Service Instructor. This position functions as lead worker by assigning, participating in, and reviewing routine and specialized tasks performed by inmates in food preparation, production, service, and baking. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will teach useful skills, support efficient and safe food operations, and maintain SCI care, custody, and security requirements. Your work will help inmates gain practical skills that can make a difference in their futures. Duties in this role include the following:

  • Instruct Food Service: Teach inmates how to prepare and serve meals according to established recipes, procedures, and in a timely manner
  • Supervise Work: Plan assignments, evaluate inmate performance, and maintain accurate records
  • Maintain Work Standards: Inspect food service areas, equipment, and food to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
  • Manage Resources: Review census and menu data to adjust recipes accordingly and reduce food waste
  • Handle Supplies: Request, receive, and store food and supplies, following first-in, first out procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours: to be determined, Sunday - Saturday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
