THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is looking for an Equipment Operator B who enjoys staying active to keep essential operations moving across Pennsylvania. This position places you at the center of daily operations that help agencies deliver important services. You will make a direct impact by supporting the timely movement of important materials. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on the safe and reliable transport of mail, documents, supplies and other items for multiple facilities. It supports the flow of essential materials that help keep statewide operations running smoothly. As a Equipment Operator B, you will perform the following duties:

  • Daily Transport Tasks: Pick up, sort, and deliver the following to facilities in the Harrisburg area and across the Commonwealth: applications, documents, mail, license plates, and other goods
  • Mail Handling: Move mail from the Post Office, operate a mail slitting machine, and distribute incoming items
  • Commercial Vehicle Use: Operate an enclosed box truck to move carts, supplies, and secure materials between locations
  • Material Movement: Load and unload trucks then transport items by cart or hand delivery to appropriate personnel
  • Equipment Operation: Use a forklift and power jack, as well as perform basic maintenance on this equipment
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate vehicle log records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires the possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brakes Restriction (L) removed.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
  • You must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with FMCSA regulations at time of hire.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
