| Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Clinical Veterinarian for the Office for Research. This position will report to the Director of Veterinary Services. The Office for Research's mission is to support the research, scholarship, and creative endeavors of all Rutgers faculty. The Office accomplishes its mission by convening with academic and research leaders, providing integrated, user-focused resources, services, and tools, and partnering with faculty.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Implements and maintains animal care standards and policies to support and enhance the University's research and teaching programs across a wide range of disciplines.
- Maintains animal care facilities and programs in accordance with public policy requirements and accreditation standards.
- Provides advice and counsel to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
- Oversees clinical activities across multiple vivaria and participates in training programs, including residency and undergraduate courses, conducted by RUAC across campuses.
- Provides instructional and hands-on training and assists in the development of novel techniques.
- Performs clinical and technical services, including providing clinical care to animals, conducting experimental surgeries, and offering surgical and anesthesia support.
- Supports or serves as the Registration Coordinator for the Controlled Dangerous Substances Program.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from an accredited veterinary school or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of formal training in laboratory animal medicine or comparable experience.

- Veterinary license in at least one state within the USA.
- Ability to obtain Federal DEA and New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substance licenses within six months of hire.

| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Ability to communicate well in English and have excellent written and verbal skills.
- Ability to participate in the occupational health program for animal workers.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work tactfully with a wide range of people.
- Broad knowledge of all aspects of laboratory animal medicine within a university or industrial setting.
- Familiarity with all equipment used in animal housing, animal maintenance (feeding, watering, and breeding), sanitation of caging and rooms, and environmental monitoring.
- Ability to train staff in their correct use and maintenance.
- Completion of a post-DVM training program in the specialty of laboratory animal medicine or equivalent specialized experience.

- Board certification or eligibility in Laboratory Animal Medicine.
- Research credentials (MS or PhD).
USDA Accredited Veterinarian.- Successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

- Cagewashers, bottlewashers, autoclaves, large dry heat sterilizers, laminar flow cage change stations, Microisolator and standard caging, ventilated housing racks.
- Surgical equipment - anesthesia equipment, physiological monitors Diagnostic equipment - microscopes, centrifuges.
- Microsoft Office and custom animal care and use management software and other critical software programs such as electronic IACUC systems.

| Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- This position requires full range of body movement and ability to lift up to 50 lbs weight when required in handling or assisting with veterinary care of animals.
- This position requires correctable vision to observe animals for signs of illness and evaluate animal rooms and equipment for compliance with applicable standards.
- This position requires employee to walk, stand for several hours when conducting inspections of animal facilities and laboratories.

- Per federal regulation, must undergo a criminal background check in order to be able to work with controlled substances.
- This position will require to pass a post-offer, pre-placement medical evaluation to include a medical history and physical examination.
