The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by the Medical Center at UCSF and its providers and payors. These services include, but are not limited to: drug procurement, storage, and security; safe, accurate and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical pharmacy services for patients; development of drug use policies within the Medical Center; drug information services for clinicians and patients; and participation in technology assessment and quality assurance programs. The Department of Pharmaceutical Services is affiliated with the UCSF Department of Clinical Pharmacy, an academic department within the School of Pharmacy, which has primary responsibility for teaching professional courses in the Pharm.D. curriculum, clinical research, and public and clinical service. Under the Department of Pharmaceutical Services, the Clinical Informatics Pharmacist is involved in all aspects of the medication use process at all pharmacy locations within the UCSF Health System. They may also be asked to participate in pharmaceutical care in other sectors of the Department of Pharmaceutical Services as needed. The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist performs a wide range of informatics related pharmaceutical care functions to assure that drugs prescribed for and used by patients are safe and effective. The Clinical Informatics Pharmacist will be part of an interprofessional team consisting of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other professionals. The services provided by Clinical Informatics Pharmacist include maintaining and updating clinical informatics systems, performing analytics reports, and designing and implementing medication-use technology, workflows, and protocols. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS % of time Essential Function (Yes/No) Key Responsibilities (To be completed by Supervisor) 15 Yes Collaborates with business, technical, and clinical leaders to plan, develop, implement, analyze, and maintain highly-complex clinical informatics systems, and to design integrated architecture to ensure an optimal and efficient user experience and functionality, integrity, and reliability of systems. Maintain knowledge in all relevant clinical informatics software and systems, and of the highly-complex concepts, principles, policies, methodologies, techniques, best practices, regulations, and standards practices involved with patient care and electronic medical data management in the UC health care system. 25 Yes Serves as a technical leader and liaison in collaborating with business operations, pharmacy staff and other healthcare clinicians, and IT applications and technical teams to translate operations workflow and patient experience objectives into technical requirements and to identify, support, and achieve Departmental goals. Advise on the functionality, impact, and anticipated benefits of proposed projects. 25 Yes Leads project teams that include advanced business and clinical staff to improve clinical informatics results and to provide advice and sophisticated metrics and analytics to support management's decision-making processes for systems modifications that are cost-effective, scalable, and meet present and future needs. Coordinate timeline, workflows, and implementation for pharmacy informatics initiatives. Prioritize pharmacy informatics projects that are competing for resources. Navigate required approval and escalation processes to sustain traction on Department of Pharmacy initiatives. 20 Yes Performs highly-complex quality assurance testing, designs and runs analytical queries for enhanced and complex medical data access, and plans, develops, and writes documentation of design and deployment processes, workflows, and results. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
