Senior Environmental Planner

SSFM is a locally rooted engineering firm that has been part of Hawaii's growth for over 65 years. What began with just four structural engineers has grown into a multi-discipline team supporting projects across the Pacific Rim - from critical infrastructure to community-focused spaces.

While we've grown, we've stayed grounded in what matters: strong relationships, thoughtful collaboration, and work that directly impacts the communities we live in. Here, you're not just contributing to projects - you're part of shaping Hawaii's future.

Pay

Salary Range: $110,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience.

What We Offer

  • 100% covered medical, dental, and vision for you and eligible dependents
  • 401(k) with company-funded contributions
  • Paid time off starting at 15 days, plus paid holidays and community service time
  • Development, wellness, and recognition programs

What You'll Do

  • Lead environmental planning projects and coordinate required consultations in accordance with federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and manage federal, state, and county regulatory and land use permits, while advising clients on permitting strategies and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and work closely with engineers, architects, and technical specialists in areas including cultural resources, biology, transportation, land use, air quality, noise, and utilities to develop thorough and well-supported analyses.
  • Manage agency coordination and public engagement efforts, including community outreach, public meetings, and presentations to government agencies and officials.
  • Oversee all aspects of project management, including scope, budget, schedule, risk management, and communication with clients, agencies, project teams, and community partners.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 8 years of professional environmental planning and land usepermitting experience at the federal level and in the state of Hawaii.
  • Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment, provide project leadership, mentor junior planners, and contribute to organizational excellence.
  • Certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)

If you're interested in this opportunity, we encourage you to apply. We look forward to learning more about you and how your experience could contribute to our team.
