Position Description:

We are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Data Engineer to join our team. The Data Engineer will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining robust data infrastructure and pipelines that empower analytics, business intelligence, and strategic decision-making across the organization. This role requires a deep understanding of data architecture, ETL "Extract, Transform, Load" development, and integration of multiple data sources.

Essential Functions

Lead the end-to-end design and development of a data warehouse with external vendor support, including data modeling, ETL pipelines, and integrations from multiple data sources (APIs, databases, etc.)

Collaborate on the development of a forward-looking data strategy, promoting innovation in data infrastructure and analytics.

Partner with multiple internal stakeholders to understand business challenges & identify opportunities for data driven solutions

Design, develop, and manage scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support analytics, reporting, and data science initiatives.

Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects to ensure high performance and data consistency.

Build and maintain data integrations from diverse sources including APIs, databases, and flat files, ensuring reliability and data quality.

Support the development of dashboards and BI tools by ensuring the availability of accurate, well-structured data.

Design and implement data validation, monitoring, and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve data quality issues.

Perform exploratory data analysis and statistical analysis to support business decisions.

Create and maintain processes to generate accurate and timely reports that help stakeholders understand and act on key data insights.

Develop tools and frameworks to support automated extraction of large volumes of data from websites or other digital sources

Assist in data governance efforts to ensure data integrity and consistency.

Contribute to internal documentation and provide training to team members on data systems, tools, and best practices.

Work collaboratively with cross-functional team to test and validate new reporting/modeling features

Effectively display data for decision making.

Additional Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field; Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) are a plus.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a related field, with a strong track record of building scalable data solutions.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL) and building or maintaining enterprise data warehouses.
  • Familiarity with modern data pipeline tools and orchestration frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, dbt, Talend).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python for data analysis is a plus.
  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., MS Azure) is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in data modeling, normalization, and schema design best practices.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization tool.
  • Proven work history as a Data Engineer.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Preferred previous experience with government and/or DoD entities.
  • Adept at managing change and fostering innovation in a complex organizational landscape.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and derive actionable insights.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional setting.
  • This position will need the ability to access US only data systems - US Citizenship is required.

Anticipated salary is in range commensurate with education and experience:
$105,000 - $115,000
