Position Summary:

The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for operating CNC equipment to produce high-quality parts in accordance with established processes and quality standards. This role supports production by performing setup assistance, tool changes, inspections, and basic troubleshooting while continuously developing machining skills and knowledge.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Operate one or more types of CNC equipment to manufacture parts according to specifications.
  • Load parts, monitor machine operation, and ensure parts are machined correctly, including surface finish and feature accuracy.
  • Follow all operational processes, control plans, work instructions, and checklists.
  • Identify and assemble cutting tools and tool holders based on process documentation.
  • Perform tool changes and replace worn or broken tools as needed.
  • Identify correct program start points and demonstrate working knowledge of CNC codes (including M codes).
  • Conduct in-process inspections using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, gage pins, and MicroHite.
  • Load and operate equator systems and review inspection outputs.
  • Read and interpret CMM and equator reports to make necessary adjustments.
  • Assist with troubleshooting machine issues and escalate concerns when needed.
  • Identify basic issues with fixtures and tooling.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, including basic GD&T concepts.
  • Perform secondary operations as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment through 5S practices.
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Support cross-functional work and overtime/shift flexibility based on business needs.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.



Education/Experience & Skills:




  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-5+ years of CNC machining experience, depending on level and demonstrated proficiency.
  • Ability to operate CNC machines with increasing levels of independence.
  • Experience with tool setup, tool wear identification, and tool replacement.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes and part inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints; exposure to GD&T required for advanced levels.
  • Working to advanced knowledge of G and M codes.
  • Basic to solid computer and math skills.
  • Experience using inspection and measurement tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and identify additional work as needed.


Advanced Skills & Experience (typically Level III)



  • Minimum 5+ years of demonstrated CNC machining experience
  • Ability to operate independently at a high level with minimal supervision.
  • Thorough understanding of G and M codes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GD&T and its application to machining and inspection.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, solve problems, and maintain workflow efficiency.



    Working Conditions:



    • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
    • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
    • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
    • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
    • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
    • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
    • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
    • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
    • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
