JOB TITLE/POSITION: Superintendent of Schools 

On April 29, 2026, the School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida approved a job description,  including the minimum qualifications, and Desired Attributes of the Superintendent, for candidates  wishing to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools. This is a contracted position. 

The Superintendent is the chief executive officer of the School District (F.S. 1001.50 and School Board Policy 1010) and reports directly to the School Board. The Superintendent shall be responsible for the  administration and management of the District's schools and for the supervision of instruction.  (School Board Policy 1030). 

Pursuant to state law and Board Policy, the Board is authorized to appoint the Superintendent  and to enter into an employment contract with the selected candidate. 

Below are the minimum qualifications for this position as approved by the School Board on April  29, 2026. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

FOR POSITION OF SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS 

• At a minimum, a Master's degree or higher; Doctoral degree preferred. • Demonstrated experience as a classroom teacher or equivalent instructional experience:   Three (3) years of Highly Effective/Effective public school classroom teaching  experience or equivalent instructional experience. 
• Demonstrated experience as a school-site principal, and district-wide experience.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible public school administrative experience.
• Proven leadership experience at a school-site, District, or organizational level including responsibility for improving student outcomes, managing teams, and driving educational  performance. 

• An understanding of our diverse community and knowledge of the needs of our students,  including English Language Learners, Exceptional Education Students, low performing  students, our most gifted and talented students, and our students who come from  economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. 
• Knowledge of administration, supervision, curriculum, business and financial affairs,  personnel management, and program evaluation of large complex systems  especially through change. 
• Oral and written communication skills. 
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people. 
• Demonstrated understanding of and ability to leverage technology, data systems,  and emerging innovations to improve student outcomes and organizational  effectiveness. 
• Demonstrated commitment to and belief in the critical role of strong public education systems in community success.
