Overview

Maintains all areas of Anatomic Pathology as appropriate; orders and stocks all necessary processing supplies. Accessions and prepares all cytology and surgical pathology specimens. Assures daily quality of preparation and staining in consultation with the general supervisor. Monitors all laboratory equipment and performs maintenance as required by the manufacture's recommendation and contacts vendor for repair if needed. Monitors storage and disposal of specimen containers. Maintains appropriate stain and equipment logs to document maintenance activities. Segregates specimens that may be needed for additional procedures. Assists Cytology with preparation of non -gyn and gyn specimens. Utilizes laboratory database system for specimen accessioning and report generation. Assist anatomic pathology clerical staff with office duties including but not limited to faxing and mailing patient reports and slides. Maintains pathology slide files in accordance with government mandated retention requirements. Maintains knowledge of section procedures and safety requirements. Performs duties of the general lab aide for both the clinical and anatomic laboratories. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities
Qualifications EDUCATION High School graduate; some college preferred EXPERIENCE Prior experience in laboratory environment is preferred LICENSURE None required SPECIAL SKILLS Organized and detail oriented with understanding of basic technical processes; excellent problem solving in a timely manner. Responds promptly to client needs and requests. PHYSICAL DEMAND Processing requires a lot of time standing, occasional bending and lifting; special handling of chemicals utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment.
