Our Commercial Litigation Practice specializes in representing clients in high-stakes business disputes across a wide range of industries. Position Summary

We are currently looking for mid-level associates with 3-5 years of civil commercial litigation experience to join our Miami office.

Candidates should possess excellent academic credentials and strong legal writing, research and analytical skills, as well as strong oral communication and advocacy ability. Candidates should demonstrate the analytical rigor to grasp the legal intricacies of complex disputes, the competitive spirit needed to thrive in adversarial matters and an enthusiasm for constructing persuasive legal arguments.

As an associate in Miami, candidates will be given significant, hands-on responsibility in all phases of litigation, including trials and appeals. We seek an associate with the experience, intelligence and proactive drive to serve as a lead associate on matters from day one and who are committed to continually improving their skillset. The ideal candidate will research and draft critical briefs, appellate filings, pleadings and legal memoranda; develop and execute discovery strategies; manage junior associates; and play an important role in direct and cross examinations, client communications, depositions, expert witness preparation and court hearings and trials. We are looking for a go-getter who can operate effectively within a team and interact professionally with clients.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Participate in strategy for matters ranging from complex commercial litigation, class actions, business-tort litigation, arbitration-related litigation and regulatory investigations

  • Take a hands-on role in trials and appeals, including drafting motions and preparation for direct and cross examinations

  • Draft briefs (including appellate briefs), pleadings, memoranda, correspondence, examination outlines and other documents

  • Play a key role in document and deposition discovery, trial preparation and trials

  • Conduct legal research and analyze evidence to develop facts and strategy

  • Participate in and conduct witness interviews, client meetings and negotiations

  • Provide direct assistance to partners and senior lawyers on matters arising in the course of day-to-day provision of legal services

  • Supervise and mentor junior lawyers and support staff

  • Collaborate with partners on business development initiatives, including pitches and other client-facing opportunities

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of Commercial Litigation experience in a law firm setting with a focus on civil litigation, this can be inclusive of 1-2 years of a judicial clerkship

  • Judicial clerkship experience, particularly with Florida courts or federal courts, is strongly preferred

  • Strong academic record and intellectual curiosity, creative thinker

  • Excellent brief-writing and legal research skills, including experience drafting first drafts of substantive motions and appellate briefs

  • Outstanding oral communication and advocacy skills

  • Commercial and business awareness

  • Keen eye for detail with an ability to see the bigger picture

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to stay calm under pressure, including when juggling multiple projects with tight deadlines

  • Strong professional presence and client-service focus

  • Team player with sound judgment

  • Proactive, resourceful, takes initiative and a self-starter

  • Fluency in English; Spanish or Portuguese language skills are helpful but not required

  • Admitted to the Florida Bar and in good standing (or willing and eligible to seek admission)
