Primary Function:
Responsible for analyzing and reconciling detailed general ledger accounts as assigned. Keeps records and accounts accurate and current. Researches and resolves discrepancies and accounting errors. Completes related reports, summaries, and records.
The Accountant I will assist employees in the Accounting Department and all appropriate internal credit union partners. Conducts daily business interactions and maintains constant alignment with OnPath's mission, culture, and core values. Encourages others to act with mission, culture, and core values in mind always. Demonstrates initiative and sound judgment in the absence of specific direction from management. Ensures value through decision making that supports credit union goals and interests. Passionately displays a desire to build rapport and expand relationships with all members both internally and externally. Stays informed on OnPath's products and services to provide the right recommendations to the right members at the right time. Promotes and maintains a positive image of the credit union to peers, members, and communities we serve.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Reconciles assigned general ledger and bank accounts. Researches and corrects general ledger account discrepancies and performs monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
Maintains monthly investment payments and outstanding accrued balances via Qwikrate.
Prepares and post general ledger journal entries, including all appropriate back-up information.
Serves as backup to the Accounts Payable Associate.
Assists in accurate and timely reporting of financial results in accordance with GAAP.
Participates in special projects and performs financial analytics to support new contracts, products, or services as needed.
Assists with 1099 Reporting.
Provides written/video procedures for primary assignments and trains others on primary responsibilities.
Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience
Six months to two years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions. Knowledge of accounting concepts and procedures including account reconciliation. Knowledge of related computer applications.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Management.
Interpersonal Skills
Courtesy and tact are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with customers and others inside and outside the organization, generally regarding fairly routine matters for the purposes of giving and obtaining information or instructions, updating or referring. Communications generally require shorter and not in-depth discussions.
Other Skills
Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, federal, state, and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility is necessary. Proficiency with database software and the MS Office suite is also required.
