Department Overview

Enterprise Support Services function is to provide complete operations and maintenance service support so that our physical facilities (buildings, equipment, machinery, systems and grounds) may operate at an optimum. Optimization of our facilities will promote and ensure safe, clean, and compatible working conditions for employees. Enterprise Support Services activities include building maintenance and repair, office space planning and associated move coordination, leasing administration (building/property), construction project management and Physical Security. This area also assists with corporate office moves, reconfiguration projects for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and affiliate companies.

Primary Responsibilities

The Manager, Physical Security is responsible for the enterprise-wide strategy, leadership, and operational execution of physical security and executive protection programs across the Company and its subsidiaries.

This role ensures the protection of personnel, assets, facilities, and executive leadership through the development and implementation of comprehensive, risk-based security programs aligned with corporate policies, organizational culture, and evolving threat conditions.

The Manager leads a security program that is intelligence-informed, scalable, and low-profile, supporting executive operations while preserving discretion and minimizing unnecessary visibility.

Key areas of oversight include:

  • Enterprise physical security operations and personnel (internal and contracted)
  • Security systems, including access control, video surveillance, and life safety systems
  • Executive protection, including event-based protection, travel security, and residential considerations
  • Protective intelligence and threat assessment processes
  • Vendor and contract management for security services and technologies
  • Security policy, standards, and regulatory compliance
  • Risk assessment, investigations, and incident response

The incumbent establishes governance, standards, and operating frameworks that ensure consistent execution across all locations, while advising leadership on security risk, protective posture, and appropriate resource allocation.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Criminal Justice, Legal Psychology, Sociology, Risk Management, Homeland Security, or related field
  • 6 years of progressive experience in physical security, law enforcement, or a related field
  • 2 years of leadership experience managing personnel, vendors, and security programs
  • Demonstrated experience managing enterprise-level security operations across multiple locations
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience directing and organizing subordinate work activities
  • Strong knowledge of: Access control systems; Video surveillance (CCTV); Intrusion detection systems
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and service contracts
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief senior leadership
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience making independent decisions
  • Experience building collaborative relationships and fostering teamwork
  • Experience with business continuity planning, emergency preparedness, auditing, and risk management
  • Experience supporting or managing executive protection programs, including event-based protection and travel security preferred
  • Experience in threat assessment, protective intelligence, or analysis of threatening communications preferred
  • Experience coordinating security for high-profile events or senior leadership activities preferred
  • Familiarity with integrating intelligence, operations, and executive support functions in a corporate environment preferred
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCP), and/or Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) preferred
  • Master's Degree preferred
Work Location

The work schedule for this position will be hybrid (onsite/remote). Business areas reserve the right to require associates to return to the office as needed, based on performance or other business considerations. A hybrid work schedule is subject to amendment or termination at any time by the Company.
