Job Description

This role is responsible for the research, development, and continuous improvement of both existing and newly developed devices and process technologies used in the manufacture of Silicon Photonics-related devices within a semiconductor wafer foundry. The employee will exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to support this work.

Key Responsibilities:

* Develop and implement process technologies within a VLSI manufacturing, foundry environment.

* Design, characterize, and optimize silicon photonic devices.

* Participate in and coordinate experiments aimed at advancing technology development and enhancing yield.

* Collaborate with process engineering, test, and customer teams to define goals and manufacturing solutions.

* Design test structures within a CAD environment and define tests for device characterization using tools such as ICCAP and LabView.

* Provide support in resolving customer issues, problems, and inquiries.

* Support the transition of process variants from development to full-scale production.

* Support the transfer of processes to worldwide fabrication facilities, as needed.

Development Opportunities

This role offers extensive interaction with both internal and external customers, providing valuable exposure to diverse perspectives and stakeholder needs. Team members will have the opportunity to transfer and develop new technologies, expanding their technical expertise and staying at the forefront of innovation. Additionally, this position offers high-visibility, high-impact projects and responsibilities, allowing individuals to make meaningful contributions while advancing their professional growth.

This Job Is For You If:

  • You provide support to resolve customer issues, problems, and questions.
  • You process technology development and implementation within a VLSI manufacturing/foundry environment.
  • You are an expert in silicon photonic device design, characterization, and optimization.
  • You participate in and coordinate experiments toward technology development and yield enhancement.
  • You collaborate with process engineering teams, the test team, and customers to define goals and manufacturing solutions.
  • You design test structures (in a CAD environment) and define tests for device characterization (ICCAP, LabView).
  • You support the transfer from development to production for process variants.
  • You support transfers to worldwide fabrication facilities as needed.

Job Requirements

Must Have:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant field, or B.S. with 5+ years of related experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Silicon Photonics-related process and device development.
  • This position requires strong analytical capabilities combined with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Expert-level understanding of silicon photonic and optoelectronic devices, including their design principles and operational characteristics.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications, including optical simulation software (e.g., Lumerical), mask layout reading and editing tools (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso), statistical data processing software (e.g., R or JMP), device and process TCAD simulation tools (e.g., Medici, Sentaurus), and semiconductor fab lot management systems (e.g., PROMIS or Workstream).
