Job Summary

TDIndustries partners with the Construction Education Foundation (CEF) of North Texas to offer a comprehensive Sheet Metal Apprentice Program designed to build long-term careers in the commercial HVAC and mechanical construction field. Apprentices will receive hands-on training on active job sites while attending CEF's accredited sheet metal curriculum over a three-year structured program.

This state-recognized apprenticeship provides a blend of real-world installation experience and technical education focused on sheet metal fabrication, air distribution systems, equipment installation, and safety best practices. The program prepares apprentices to become highly skilled sheet metal workers with strong career paths within TDIndustries.


Essential Duties

As a Sheet Metal Apprentice, you will:

  • Assist in the fabrication, assembly, and installation of sheet metal duct systems
  • Learn to measure, cut, bend, and form sheet metal using hand tools and power equipment
  • Install ducts, fittings, hangers, insulation, and air distribution components
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and layout plans
  • Support installation of HVAC equipment and air handling systems
  • Learn proper use of fabrication tools including brakes, shears, and plasma cutters
  • Work alongside experienced sheet metal journeymen and foremen
  • Attend weekly CEF classroom training (typically evenings)
  • Follow structured training milestones throughout the 3-year program
  • Maintain safe work practices aligned with TDIndustries standards

Program Details

  • Structured 3-year apprenticeship combining paid field work with CEF schooling
  • Curriculum includes duct fabrication, air distribution, code requirements, blueprint reading, safety, and mechanical fundamentals

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Interest in sheet metal, HVAC systems, construction, or hands-on mechanical work
  • Commitment to completing the full 3-year apprenticeship program
  • Ability to work safely on construction sites in varying environments
  • Reliable transportation to job sites and CEF classes
  • Strong work ethic, teamwork mindset, and willingness to learn new skills
