Job Description

The UMKC Conservatory invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses and applied lessons. This is a continuous posting to establish a pool of qualified candidates for part-time, non benefit eligible, non-tenure-track instructional opportunities across all areas of the Conservatory, including Music, Dance, and Theatre.

Appointments are made on a semester basis, as instructional needs arise.

Adjunct faculty are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in classroom, studio, or applied lesson settings, and for contributing to the academic and artistic life of the Conservatory.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses or applied lessons in areas such as Music Composition, Music Education and Theory, Music Therapy, Instrumental and Vocal Studies, Keyboard Studies, Jazz Studies, Dance, and Theatre.
  • Communicate clearly and in a timely manner regarding student progress and performance concerns.
  • Maintain regular communication and responsiveness to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Foster a positive and professional learning environment.
  • Demonstrate effective instructional practices appropriate to diverse learning contexts, including individual and group instruction.
  • Contribute to the artistic, academic, and cultural environment of the Conservatory and the greater Kansas City community.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Appropriate degree or significant professional experience relevant to the discipline and level of instruction.
  • Demonstrated success teaching in the candidate's area of specialization.
  • Familiarity with both applied instruction and/or classroom teaching, as appropriate.
  • Evidence of alignment with the Conservatory's mission, vision, and values.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Compensation is determined based on academic rank, education, experience, and internal equity. In some cases, compensation may be negotiable.

Other Information

These are part-time, temporary, non-tenure-accruing positions and are not eligible for University benefits. Appointment periods are typically for a single semester, with the possibility of reappointment based on program needs.
