Primary Purpose of Position
The Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff provides high-level professional, operational, and project coordination support for the Office of the Chief of Staff. The position exercises independent judgment in translating executive priorities into actionable work plans, coordinating cross-functional contributors, tracking progress against deliverables, identifying risks or delays, and determining when matters require elevation to the Chief of Staff or another senior leader. The position supports institutional priorities by preparing leadership briefing materials, synthesizing information from multiple offices, coordinating follow-up on sensitive or time-sensitive matters, and helping ensure that executive decisions are supported by clear context and timely implementation. The position also serves as a professional liaison across executive offices, communications, strategic operations, finance, and other campus partners. This role requires a high degree of autonomy, confidentiality, problem-solving ability, and organizational judgment in a fast-paced executive environment where priorities frequently cross divisional lines.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the Office of the Chancellor is to promote the educational excellence and general development and welfare of the institution by directing the mission and vision of the university. Accordingly, the office staff ensures the administrative needs of the chancellor are met and provides administrative support to the chancellor by assisting with the daily operations of the university and acting as the initial contact for university administrators, faculty, staff and students; and visitors.
Minimum Requirements
Mid-career professional with bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area and 2 yrs progressively responsible experience administrative/office management experience in higher education. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
