The Charlotte 49ers Athletic Academic Center (
AAC) is committed to empowering all Charlotte varsity student-athletes to take ownership of their personal academic experience. The center provides a framework of support services designed to meet the unique needs of student-athletes, assisting them to achieve academic and personal success at the University while ensuring the student-athletes ' compliance with all National Collegiate Athletic Association (
NCAA), Conference, and University regulations. |
| Primary Purpose of Position |
The position is a professional-level position that assists and monitors student-athletes with regard to academic advising, admissions, and other related academic activities. This position is responsible for supervision of two Assistant Directors; assistance with leading the unit; Academic Advising for assigned teams to include identifying and weekly monitoring/meeting with at-risk student-athletes, and Support of all assigned team members and coaches; Admissions Assistance to include evaluating all freshman, transfer, and graduate applications for admissibility and eligibility and meeting with recruits as needed; Instruction of at least one University Transitions Seminars each semester specifically for student-athletes and other duties as assigned. |
| Summary of Position Responsibilities |
Academic Advising and Support for Assigned Teams, to include, but not limited to:
- Maintain a current knowledge of the academic rules and procedures of the University, Conference, and the NCAA.
- Identify those student-athletes who fit into the academically high-risk category.
- Assist assigned student-athletes with course selection, goal fulfillment, and eligibility requirements; assist student-athletes in choosing a major(s) that best meet their career goals; maintain student-athlete academic/progress to degree files.
- Assist in monitoring the established study hall program and report students' hours to coaches weekly. Complete weekly academic meeting notes to track the progress of high-risk student-athletes.
- Provide admissions assistance for assigned teams.
- This position provides supervision of two Assistant Directors.
- The position will provide instruction for at least one University Transitions course designed specifically for student-athletes each semester.
- Assist in the operational needs of the unit and lead the staff in times of the Director's absence.
- Assist in completing reports for the university, conference, and the state Board of Governors.

Master's degree with at least 5+ years in academic support programs working with
NCAA Division I student-athletes. |
| Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience |
At least 5+ years in academic support programs working with
NCAA Division I student-athletes required. Experience working with high profile and at-risk student-athletes and teams preferred. Previous experience in various areas of athletic academic support which may include; learning specialist, tutor program coordination, bridge and/or transition courses, awards coordination, etc. Experience as a supervisor of professional staff. Active member of N4A.Demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a variety of diverse audiences and constituencies; interpersonal skills and political acumen to build effective bridges and collaborative relationships and knowledge of best practices related to delivery of academic services for student-athlete populations. The candidate must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of and experience with the educational and cultural needs of a diverse student body and be able to relate to diverse students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni and community leaders. |
