Position Summary:

The Department of Radiation Oncology at NYU Langone Health is seeking a clinical medical physicist to join our team at our Perlmutter Cancer Center outpatient facility in Manhattan. This is an excellent opportunity for a physicist to practice in a collaborative, patient-centered environment with meaningful clinical responsibility while being part of a large, multisite academic radiation oncology program recognized for clinical excellence, innovation, and education.

The physicist in this role will primarily support the clinical operations of our outpatient radiation oncology practice at Perlmutter Cancer Center in Manhattan and play an integral part in the safe, precise, and effective delivery of radiation therapy. Working closely with fellow physicists, radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists, the successful candidate's contributions will include, but not be limited to, quality assurance, chart review, equipment oversight, and the continued advancement of high-quality clinical care. The Perlmutter Cancer Center Manhattan outpatient facility offers the advantage of a busy and robust practice with strong local physics support and close integration within a broader department that values close collaboration across campuses and shared standards of excellence across the health system.

This position offers the opportunity to combine meaningful local clinical responsibility with the resources and collegiality of a broader department spanning Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Long Island. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative physics and radiation oncology team and will have opportunities to engage with colleagues across sites in clinical problem-solving, program development, and departmental initiatives. The department also includes a CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics Residency Program, providing opportunities for teaching and mentorship.

Our department has an innovation focused and experienced team consisting of 26 faculty and staff physicists, 26 radiation oncology physicians, and 21 dosimetrists. The Perlmutter Cancer Center Manhattan outpatient facility hosts 7 physicists and has 3 TrueBeam linacs, 1 MR simulator, and 1 CT simulator, and the wider system offers access to a diverse and advanced technology platform consisting of a total of 7 TrueBeam linacs, 1 Ethos linac, 1 Elekta MR linac, 1 GammaKnife, 1 Radixact, 3 CyberKnifes, 3 Bravos HDR afterloaders, 4 CT-simulators, 1 PET/CT-Simulator, and 1 MR simulator. Coordination with, coverage for, and travel to, our other practices in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island will be necessary on occasion.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Treatment Planning: Identifies and evaluates target volumes and critical structures. Generates QA plans as required for IMRT and reference points as needed for physics checks. Follows established policies and procedures as they relate to treatment planning. Demonstrated level of planning capability. Completeness of RT electronic charts: setup fields, DRR, CBCT, ref points, scheduling.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Quality Assurance: Performs assigned quality assurance tasks in a complete and timely fashion (linac monthly and annual QA, IMRT QA, brachytherapy QA). Performs assigned quality assurance tasks in a complete and timely fashion (initial chart checks, weekly chart checks, final chart review). Documents all quality assurance work in a complete and timely fashion and determines compliance in all categories included in the lists; initiates corrective action when necessary.
  • Participates in in-service programs and conferences. Attends all required department in-service meetings. Attends annual billing/documentation/safety classes. Attends annual Radiation Safety in-service.
  • Participation in training of Residents and Students: Assists in the training of Residents and Students on use of Eclipse or ARIA and the principle of treatment planning. Participates in research protocols.
  • Initiative: Makes suggestions for positive changes. Demonstrates ability to understand tasks and creatively apply solutions. Demonstrates ability to adopt and help develop new physics initiatives and policies. Readily accepts new assignments and responsibilities. Recognizes when help is needed by others and offers guidance and assistance. Monitors patient tracker to effect a smooth and orderly process for patients and staff.
  • Planning and Time Utilization: Work is thought out and planned in advance and successfully implemented. Coordinates own work to achieve efficiency and quality patient care. Work is completed in a timely manner, meeting schedules.
  • Documentation: All paperwork and electronic forms are complete, signed and labeled accordingly. Procedure codes are complete, timely and accurate. Documents, dates & signs all changes to treatment set-up. Documentation for clinical trials and protocols is coordinated with appropriate parties.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master's of Science degree in physics or engineering and completion of a training/residency program or a Master's Degree in an accredited Medical Physics program. Required license NYS Med Physicist License - 30675 (Grace period - NA) or NYS Limited Med Physicist Perm - 30676 (Grace period - NA)
Well developed communication and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Certification (ABR);

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $222,017.06 - $246,750.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
