The Trades Worker - General assists the Specialty Trades Worker in performing a variety of skilled jobs. Work is performed under the supervision of a Specialty Trades Worker with general direction and work assignments coming from the Central Maintenance Administrator. Annual performance goals will be set for the Trades Worker-General.

Hiring Salary Range: $47,330.12 - $54,400.10

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (w/illustrative examples of work)

Assist in the repair and/or replacement of various structures to include:

  • Repair roofs, walls, floors, and steps of varying materials.
  • Repair and/or replace doors, windows, and associated hardware.
  • Repair and/or replace damaged woodwork.
  • Design, plan, and construct various structures.

Assist in the repair and/or replacement of damaged and/or faulty electrical systems and/or installing new electrical services and equipment to include:

  • Inspection and repair of electrical systems.
  • Repair of circuit breakers, relays, ground fault interrupters, wiring, switches, and outlets.
  • Repair of equipment such as correcting electrical problems in controls of kitchen and concession equipment.
  • Install circuits and fixtures for power and lighting in a variety of settings.
  • Excavation and running of new electrical service.
  • Troubleshoot and repair and/or installation of electrical equipment.

Assist in the repair and/or replacement of HVAC systems to include:

  • Cleaning, repair, or replacement of HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshoot faulty HVAC systems and related refrigeration equipment.
  • Service and installation of ice machines and refrigeration equipment.
  • Preventive maintenance and service on oil-fired furnace and equipment.
  • Service on gas appliances.

Assist in the repair and/or replacement of malfunctioning plumbing equipment and systems to include:

  • Inspection and repair of plumbing system.
  • Repair of plumbing fixtures, pipes, and accessories, including excavation, as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair of swimming pool pumps, well systems, etc.

Perform miscellaneous work:

  • Assist in determining needed resources; maintain tools and supplies needed for repairs and construction.
  • Ensure clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Keep abreast of current standards, practices, and procedures in the trades.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of repairs, preventive maintenance, and servicing through web-based maintenance software.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (minimum)

Education: High School diploma supplemented by apprentice-level training. One year apprenticeship preferred.

Physical: Manual work with strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions in outdoor and indoor settings; will perform manual labor in all weather conditions; will lift and move items equal to or greater than 80 pounds; will climb ladders; will use tools and operate equipment.

Experience: One year apprentice level experience in trades, or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience which provides:

  • Working knowledge of methods, practices, and materials involved in carpentry, electrical/HVAC, and plumbing.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of tools and power equipment.
  • Ability to adapt available tools and equipment to a variety of repairs.
  • Possession of driver's license with safe driving record.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain other licenses as required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.
