Product Reliability Engineer

THE ROLE:

Join a global product reliability team that drives silicon reliability qualifications for the next generation Artificial Intelligence Datacenters, Servers, and Game Console products, leveraging advanced silicon and packaging technologies. This position is a highly visible role within the AMD engineering team and with external customers, responsible for defining and executing product reliability qualifications for new products to align with AMD product and customer requirements. The engineer will possess technical authority in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that requires decision making at strategic and tactical levels. The position provides influence that mandates strong analytical and technical skills. This role works closely with AMD engineering teams and communicates directly with foundries and customers to determine the reliability requirements of current and future products.

THE PERSON:

  • Demonstrated success working in product Quality and Reliability, with strong familiarity of Semiconductor IC Product Development, Silicon Fab process, high volume manufacturing, external supplier and customer engagement, and project management.
  • A self-motivated team player who focuses on collaboration, team building, and expanding team success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Starting at early product development stages, establish comprehensive silicon qualification plans for early reliability assessment studies and product qualification testing following JEDEC and AEC-Q100 standards.
  • Take on leadership of planning and execution of reliability activities throughout development, qualification, production-ramp, and sustaining.
  • Communicate with offshore factories and reliability labs during qualification.
  • Determine burn-in conditions, develop DOE experiments for burn-in optimization, device degradation models for production guardbands, generate lifetime projections and recommend screening strategies.
  • Coordinate analysis of reliability observations, drive root cause and corrective actions working in collaboration with engineering teams and Foundry partners.
  • Communicate directly with customers on product reliability qualification strategy.
  • Perform reliability modeling estimations across varying usage and operating life conditions, model product lifetime conditions using Weibull Modeling.
  • Develop physics-of-failure-based lifetime and reliability models(Weibull, lognormal, exponential) that derive key reliability metrics.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary reviews with design, process, product engineering and reliability, to solve reliability constraints through technical insight and data analysis.
  • Drive understanding of Intrinsic and Extrinsic Silicon reliability mechanisms, Design-Process interactions, and acceleration models.
  • Work with Foundry partners to align AMD product qualification requirements and technical risk assessments to ensure the foundry technology reliability envelope aligns with AMD design and IP portfolio.
  • Publish product reliability qualification reports.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong communication skills, including data presentation.
  • Strong familiarity and experience communicating with customers.
  • Expert level knowledge of High Temperature Operating Life (HTOL) product qualification methodology, planning and execution.
  • Understanding of reliability mechanisms such as EM, TDDB, HCI, BTI,ESD, andparametric shifts.
  • Knowledge of industry standard stress test methodologies (JEDEC, AEC).
  • Strong proficiency in statistical reliability analysis tools (e.g. Minitab, JMP).
  • Ability to use modeling techniques to estimate intrinsic and extrinsic lifetimes.
  • Semiconductor fabrication and device physics knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Silicon Failure Analysis methods and interpreting results.
  • Knowledge of burn-in infrastructure tools and methods.
  • Enhance internalreliability modeling infrastructureto automate data collection, lifetime prediction, and statistical reliability analysis.
  • Understanding of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), Package assembly process, 3D-stacking package reliability, a plus.
  • Understanding of Silicon Photonics reliability, test and manufacturing, a plus.
  • Knowledge of burn-in/HTOL schematics design to help define board requirements, burn-in/HTOL DFT pattern architecture, pattern vector timing, or familiarity with MCC BI platforms, a plus, but not required.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • BS/MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent.

LOCATION:

  • Austin, TX
