This position is located at the Dundalk Marine Terminal.

The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is a 205-employee transportation business unit within the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and is the public face of the Port of Baltimore. MPA was created by the Maryland General Assembly to increase waterborne commerce through the ports in the state. The Port of Baltimore plays an integral role as an economic generator and job creator, in addition to maintaining our nation's supply chain and moving vital goods to industries and consumers. As one of the nation's top ports for total cargo tonnage and overall dollar value of cargo, the Port of Baltimore is also on of the most diverse ports in the United States with over 140,000 jobs in Maryland linked to port activity.

General Role Description
MPA is seeking a motivated, positive, and driven Crane and Fleet Technician Supervisor I for the Crane and Fleet Maintenance/Operations Division. The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise crews of MPA Crane Mechanical Technicians in planning, scheduling, and directing the work of the pier for the entire shift. Employees prepare extensive records related to the maintenance process and make decisions affecting the crane maintenance program through the analysis and review of these records.

Some of the essential duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Supervise all aspects of the crane and passenger boarding bridge operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair activity.
Perform all duties and responsibilities associated with the MPA CPC (Corporate Purchasing Card) program as a card holder.
Conduct monthly safety meetings to discuss key safety topics and provide the opportunity for staff to discuss any safety concerns or problems.
Provide oversight and assistance, when necessary, for other duties other than crane maintenance (i.e. snow removal, general maintenance, cruise operations) that could subject the employee to emergency recall 24 hours a day, as well as working weekends, and/or holidays.
This position reports directly to General Manager of Crane and Fleet Maintenance.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate
Experience: Six (6) years of experience maintaining, inspecting and repairing container, whirley and portal cranes used in the loading and unloading of container vessels.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Candidates applying for the MPA Mechanical Crane Technician Supervisor I classification are required to possess and maintain a Class A commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Employee will be required to satisfy the agency's training and certification program requirements for the MPA Mechanical Crane Technician III level to obtain permanent status in the classification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Employees must be available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of the MPA's Container Cranes, Mobile Cranes and Passenger Boarding Bridge and are subject to call-in.
  • Employees are required to maintain a reliable communication link (telephone) for the purpose of emergency call back requirements.
  • Employees who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials-such as asbestos, lead-based paint, or chromium-may be required to undergo periodic medical testing. They may also be required to pass hazardous materials training and have the ability to wear a respirator. These requirements are mandatory under OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations to ensure worker safety and health.
  • Persons appointed to positions in this class must maintain a prescribed level of physical fitness and may be required to take a medical examination to determine physical ability to perform the work.
  • Applicants will be required to demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance work and climb a MPA owned Gantry and Whirley cranes.
  • Employee in this classification are considered "Essential Employees" and must sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.
  • Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulation 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

Additional Information

Employee will be required to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) to gain unescorted assess to Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration facilities.
