International Trade & Regulatory Compliance Associate - Government Contracts Steptoe LLP is seeking an associate with 3-5 years of substantive experience in government contracts and regulatory law to join our expanding Government Contracts practice in Washington, DC.
Candidates should have 3-5 years of government contracts and regulatory experience, including familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation. We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds, including attorneys with law clerk experience at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, military lawyers, and others with relevant expertise in government contracting.
Steptoe's Government Contracts team offers deep experience in all phases of government contracting - from formation and negotiation to performance, compliance, and dispute resolution. We regularly represent contractors across defense, life sciences, construction, and healthcare industries on contract negotiations and strategy, compliance questions, bid protests, and investigations.
This position offers excellent growth potential for a proactive lawyer, with opportunities for career development, diversification, and collaboration across the team. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, a proven ability to conduct insightful research and analysis, and persuasive writing abilities. Having an interest in or experience with intellectual property, contract negotiations, or regulatory issues beyond a background exclusively in litigation is a plus. We seek individuals who can assume immediate responsibility, manage complex matters, and thrive as part of a high-performing, collaborative team.
A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required, as is membership in the District of Columbia Bar, active and in good standing. For consideration, please submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $260,000 - $365,000, depending on experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors such as relevant skills, education, and professional licenses.
