The YMCA of the North Shore is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Senior Fitness Instructor to lead engaging, safe, and effective fitness programs for older adults. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about healthy aging and enjoys building relationships within a supportive, community-focused environment.

As a Senior Fitness Instructor, you'll design and lead classes that improve strength, balance, flexibility, and overall well-being. You'll create a welcoming atmosphere where participants feel comfortable, confident, and motivated-no matter their fitness level.

Experience working with individuals with Parkinson's disease or other neurological conditions is highly valued, as you'll play an important role in supporting specialized populations.


What You'll Do

  • Lead safe, engaging fitness classes tailored to older adults
  • Focus on strength, balance, mobility, and fall prevention
  • Provide modifications to meet a wide range of abilities and health needs
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and social class environment
  • Monitor participant progress and ensure safety at all times
  • Build strong relationships with members and encourage ongoing participation

Qualifications

  • Experience working with older adult populations required
  • Experience working with individuals with Parkinson's disease or similar conditions preferred
  • Current Group Exercise, Personal Training, or Senior Fitness certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM, etc.)
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe)
  • Strong understanding of functional fitness, mobility, and injury prevention
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, encouraging, and able to adapt to individual needs
  • Commitment to the YMCA's mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility
