JOB SUMMARY: The Safety Manager develops, implements, and enforces programs and procedures that ensures a safe environment for employees, contractors, and visitors across Coldspring's manufacturing and foundry operations. This role leads OSHA compliance, industrial hygiene monitoring, employee training, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Safety Manager maintains working knowledge of MSHA requirements and provides technical support to quarry operations as needed.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
  • Lead OSHA compliance and inspection readiness by owning day-to-day OSHA compliance for manufacturing and foundry operations; translate regulatory requirements into practical site procedures and safe work practices.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for OSHA inspections and related agency correspondence, coordinate document production, accompany inspectors, manage abatement responses and support post inspection corrective action tracking.
  • Maintain working knowledge of MSHA (30 CFR) requirements applicable to quarry operations.
  • Participate in MSHA-related interactions in an advisory capacity when requested (e.g. documentation support, corrective actions follow-up, or post-inspection improvement planning).
  • Create, research, and maintain site safety programs, written procedures, and equipment.
  • Plan and conduct Industrial Hygiene sampling and testing per regulatory protocol and company schedules (airborne contaminants including silica/lead, noise, and other site-specific exposures).
  • Administer respirator protection program, conduct and/or coordinate audiometric testing and hearing conservation requirements, employee compliance testing programs as required, and support the implementation of medical surveillance programs associated with industrial hygiene exposure.
  • Develop, deliver, and coordinate safety training for manufacturing and foundry operations; ensure content reflects site hazards and current procedures.
  • Lead investigations for incidents, near-misses, and high-potential events within manufacturing and foundry operations; conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective/preventative actions.
  • Partner with engineering, maintenance, and operations to identify and implement risk-reduction projects.
  • Support development and performance management of Health & Safety personnel, including training, and coaching, and input to performance appraisals.
  • Using various machines and equipment such as industrial hygiene sampling equipment (air sampling pumps, organic vapor monitors), noise monitoring equipment, gas detection devices, and audiometric equipment.
  • This position is split between an office environment and manufacturing/foundry areas as business needs dictate. Travel to other company facilities and quarry locations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Engineering, or related field preferred; post-secondary training with equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive safety experience in manufacturing, foundry, mining/quarry, or heaving industrial environments; supervisory/lead experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise with OSHA compliance programs and inspection readiness for manufacturing and foundry operations.
  • Working knowledge of MSHA requirements sufficient to advise and support quarry operations as needed.
  • Experience conducting facility inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action management.
  • Experience with industrial hygiene sampling (silica, lead, airborne contaminants) and noise monitoring; ability to calibrate and operate industrial hygiene instruments.
  • Experience with ergonomic evaluations and job hazard analysis and knowledge of PPE selection and proper use.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate technical regulatory information in a concise manner.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • May directly supervisor Health and Safety staff and provide functional guidance to safety coordinators across facilities.
