Manager of Clinical Research for Mercy Research will coordinate, participate in, and provide direct supervision to clinical team members who are engaged in clinical research studies conducted by principal investigator(s). Manager of Clinical Research will coordinate, participate in, and provide supervision over a variety of complex activities involved in the collection, compilation, documentation and analysis of clinical research data. The Manager will coordinate, perform, and oversee study specific activities and processes across multiple studies of different therapeutic areas and phases, in accordance with appropriate regulations, hospital policies and procedures, and study specific protocols/plans and processes. Manager is responsible for the supervision of clinical research coordinators, nurses and supporting clinical research team members within hired core.

Oncology Research Manager

Location: Mercy Coletta and Mercy Oklahoma City

Hybrid | Onsite presence and travel to Mercy sites as needed

The Oncology Research Manager provides leadership, coordination, and direct supervision to clinical research team members supporting oncology and other therapeutic area studies within Mercy Research. This role oversees complex clinical research activities across multiple studies and phases, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, study protocols, and Mercy policies.

The manager partners closely with Principal Investigators, sponsors, and internal departments to ensure high-quality study execution, participant safety, and data integrity while fostering a collaborative, high-performing clinical research team.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Research Management

  • Coordinate, perform, and oversee study-specific activities across multiple studies and therapeutic areas.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned research protocols and ensure team understanding and adherence.
  • Supervise clinical research coordinators, nurses, and supporting research staff within the core team.
  • Oversee collection, compilation, documentation, and analysis of clinical research data.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, FDA, NIH, ICH/GCP guidelines, and all applicable regulations.

Study Oversight & Regulatory Compliance

  • Provide leadership and supervision for:
    • Feasibility assessments and protocol reviews
    • Inclusion/exclusion criteria evaluation
    • Source documentation development and review
    • Recruitment strategy development and enrollment optimization
    • Informed consent processes and documentation
    • Verification of eligibility through source documentation
    • Case report form completion and study documentation
    • Adverse event monitoring and regulatory reporting
  • Lead audit preparation and management for sponsor and regulatory audits.
  • Collaborate with sponsors and study partners on regulatory issues.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and guide clinical research team members to ensure high performance and quality outcomes.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify performance issues and recommend corrective action plans as needed.
  • Monitor study progress, timelines, and protocol adherence to minimize deviations.
  • Prepare reports and analyses on team performance, study trends, and outcomes.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for clinical research staff.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, evaluation, and disciplinary processes.
  • Support staffing schedules, team meetings, in-services, and departmental goal setting.
  • Collaborate with the Core Director on budget development, resource utilization, and stewardship.
  • Represent Mercy Research on nursing, medical center, and research-related committees.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field or graduation from an accredited nursing school
  • Licensure:
    • Registered Nurse license required if applicable to background
    • Licensure not required for nonnursing candidates
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years' experience in clinical research, clinical leadership, or healthcare management
  • Other Skills & Knowledge:
    • Expert knowledge of ICH/GCP guidelines and clinical research regulations
    • Strong understanding of regulatory and ethical standards in research
    • Excellent verbal, written, and critical thinking skills
    • Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic medical records
    • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
    • Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fastpaced environment
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, databases, and internet tools
    • Strong customer service mindset and collaborative approach
    • Willingness to mentor and develop research staff
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience: Supervisory or management experience in clinical research
  • Certification: CCRC or CCRP (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
