Under the supervision of the Dean of STEM or Designee, the preferred candidate will be able to plan, organize, and teach college-level courses in the Mechanical Design Technology curriculum. The emphasis of the Mechanical Design Technology program is to graduate mechanical designers who foremost understand the engineering design process; who are able to design and analyze mechanical components and assemblies; who are able to create 3D solid models and 2D detailed drawings for parts and assemblies of mechanical and electromechanical systems. The candidate will be expected to teach courses in mechanical design, applied mechanics, CAD (Solidworks, Pro-E /Creo, Inventor and /or Autocad courses), and other related courses specific to the program.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program/department evaluation. **
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance.
  • Advise students on academic issues. **
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program/department area. **
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings. **
  • Promote the education/training program/department, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to promote educational opportunities at MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities. **
  • Develop relationships with business and industry. **
  • Complete program/department evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Experience:
Candidate must have one of the following sets of education and experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Material Science/Metallurgical Technology, or equivalent and must have 2 years (4000 hours) of work experience in the Mechanical Design, Engineering, Material Science/Metallurgical Technology or Technology Fields.
OR
  • Associate's Degree in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering Technology; Design Technology; Material Science/Metallurgical Technology; Computer Aided Design Technology or other equivalent subfields within 5 years (10,000 hours) of occupational related experience and training.
In addition, one of the following must be met:
  • At least one year of work experience must have occurred within the past five (5) years.
OR
  • Two (2) years of teaching Mechanical Design, Material Science/Metallurgical Technology or Engineering course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years.

Certification or Licensure Required:
None

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience in teaching and/or developing curriculum in a variety of classroom environments including in-person and online.
  • Experience using a variety of instructional methods including: face-to-face, blended, and 100% online preferred.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain curriculum currency.
  • Working knowledge of computers and software related to instructional area including MS Office/Google Suite, data systems, mobile technologies, web conference tools, and social networking; and knowledge of, or willing to learn, Blackboard or similar learning management system (LMS) preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Must have knowledge of assessment of student academic competency attainment.
  • Must be able to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.
  • Must embrace and demonstrate Standards of Teaching Excellence and the MATC Career Essentials in development and delivery of instruction.

Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies:

  • Online Information Management Systems - Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.

  • Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems.

  • Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.

  • Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (e.g. social networking applications).



Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the STEM Pathway and is available to start in fall semester 2026.

Hours: This is a part-time faculty pool position. This is an "applicant pool" posting. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, can vary in hours/days, and will depend entirely on course availability and department needs each semester. All work must be performed in the state of Wisconsin. We are seeking candidates with flexibility to teach assignments to include any combination of the following:

  • Instructional Modality: In-person

  • Teaching Times: Daytime, evening, and/or weekend classes

Salary: The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable.

Interview: As part of the interview process, selected candidates are required to prepare and present an interactive theory lesson and simulated teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes of the overall interview time, which may be conducted in-person or virtually.
