The position is embedded within a collaborative environment spanning the Broad Institute, MIT, and affiliated hospitals, with a strong emphasis on translational science and clinically impactful technologies.

Research Focus

The successful candidate will lead and contribute to projects focused on:

  • Macro-encapsulation systems for cell therapies, including hydrogel-based and implantable platforms
  • Design and synthesis of novel polymers for the delivery of nucleic acids (e.g., mRNA, DNA)
  • Development of polymer-lipid hybrid nanoparticles and advanced biomaterials
  • Integration of delivery systems into implantable or ingestible devices
  • Preclinical evaluation of therapeutic systems in relevant in vivo models
  • This work builds on ongoing efforts in cell therapy, gene delivery, and next-generation biomaterials platforms

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and synthesize novel polymeric materials for nucleic acid delivery
  • Develop macro-encapsulation platforms for cell-based therapies
  • Conduct in vivo studies in rodent models (e.g., biodistribution, efficacy, safety)
  • Perform in vitro characterization, including cell culture, 3D models, and mechanistic studies
  • Collaborate across disciplines, including engineering, biology, and clinical teams
  • Contribute to high-impact publications, grant writing, and translation efforts

Required Qualifications

  • 0+ years of post-graduate experience
  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Materials Science, or related field
  • Strong background in drug delivery, biomaterials, or nanomedicine
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Polymer synthesis and characterization
    • Nucleic acid delivery systems (e.g., LNPs, polymeric carriers)
    • Cell encapsulation or hydrogel systems
  • Hands-on experience with in vivo rodent models, including study design and execution
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with macro-encapsulation or implantable devices for cell therapy
  • Familiarity with mRNA delivery, vaccines, or gene therapy platforms
  • Experience with advanced imaging, biodistribution, or disease models (e.g., cancer, CNS)
  • Exposure to translational research or industry collaborations

Why Join

  • Work at the cutting edge of biomaterials and therapeutic delivery
  • Access to world-class resources across the Broad Institute, MIT, and Harvard
  • Highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with strong emphasis on real-world impact
  • Opportunities for career development, mentorship, and entrepreneurship
