DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays an important role in reviewing, inspecting, and documenting work related to highway occupancy permits and construction within state right of way. You will help ensure safe, compliant, and well-coordinated work across a wide range of permit activities. As a Transportation Construction Inspector - Berks & Schuylkill County Permits, you will perform the following duties:
- Field Inspections: Conduct inspections of permitted work to verify compliance with regulations and permit conditions
- Plan Reviews: Evaluate permit applications, plans, and specifications for accuracy and adherence to Department standards
- Customer Guidance: Explain regulations and requirements to applicants, property owners, and utility representatives
- Permit Compliance: Identify violations, document findings, and prescribe corrective actions when necessary
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed inspection notes, reports, and permit documentation
- Safety Verification: Check traffic control setups and field conditions to ensure public safety during permitted work

- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
- This position will cover projects within Schuylkill and Berk counties.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in District 5. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
