Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Intern (Data Science & Software Development) in Huntsville, AL for summer 2026. We are seeking a motivated AI/ML Intern to support analytics and machine learning development for defense-related data challenges. In this role, you will build foundational skills in Python, data processing, and applied machine learning while working alongside experienced engineers and data scientists. Responsibilities Develop and maintain Python scripts for data processing and analysis Assist in building, testing, and evaluating ML models Work with structured and unstructured datasets, including large or streaming data Help implement algorithms for classification, prediction, and pattern detection Support integration of AI/ML features into existing software systems and SaaS platforms Debug data or code issues and document workflows and findings Collaborate with the team to enhance tools, models, and processes Required Qualifications* 0-2 years of experience (coursework, internships, or personal projects welcome) Basic Python programming skills and understanding of programming fundamentals Introductory knowledge of machine learning concepts Exposure to at least one ML framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.) Familiarity with version control (Git) Ability to learn quickly and work well in a team Preferred Qualifications Coursework or projects involving data analysis or ML Familiarity with common model types (e.g., decision trees, neural networks) Experience with data visualization libraries (Matplotlib, Seaborn) Exposure to large datasets, streaming data, or SaaS analytics platforms Interest in AI topics such as LLMs, RAG, or deep learning Jupyter notebooks, Linux command line, Docker basics, cloud platforms Education Working toward or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or related field Equivalent practical experience considered Clearance Ability to obtain/maintain a US government security clearance.
