Wieland is hiring a Laborer III. The Laborer III will be responsible for organizing metal material according to guidelines. Maintain good housekeeping of the assigned area. Dismantle and separate materials using hand tools or the operation of a machine. Assemble and package metals for shipping. The Laborer III position requires someone with the ability to multitask, function in a high-volume and fast-paced atmosphere, work efficiently with multiple company departments, excellent communication, detail oriented, great organizational skills ability to work effectively with minimal supervision. This role is located in Granite City, IL and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range: $18/hr - $20/hr

Work Schedule: M - F 7 am - 3:30 pm

Pay Schedule: Weekly

Responsibilities

Laborer III Responsibilities:

    Serve as trainer for any new employees in the Laborer I or II roles. Assists in training staff in all aspects of equipment operation, production requirements, material, and equipment technology. Review and explain work. Explain company procedures and processes.
  • Suggest resources to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Sort and organize metal material into bins, boxes, or bags.
  • Operate and observe machines that are chopping and separating metals.
  • Sorting of material by hand at the shredder, shaker table, or other machines.
  • Dismantle metal by use of hand tools or other mechanical means.
  • Experience working in two or more departments.
  • Demonstrate ability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to work without supervision and accomplish tasks provided.
  • Perform routine inspection of the work area to ensure proper housekeeping.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor, Safety, or HR.
  • Follow Daily Procedures & Protocols as set forth in job orientations and training.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and ask questions as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve department goals.
  • Willingness to follow direction of department leader(s).
  • Other duties assigned with flexibility to work in other departments as needed.

Laborer III Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform manual work requires periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations - Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. Hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, earplugs, steel-toed shoes, gloves, full body harnesses, or other protective equipment as required by the location and work performed. Some tasks may require work in confined spaces.
  • Use of a respirator may be required for certain tasks. Must be medically cleared, fit-tested, and qualified to wear a respirator when applicable. Must maintain appropriate personal grooming to ensure an effective respirator seal.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety.
  • Maintains safety as high priority in all aspects of responsibility.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Laborer III Physical Demands:

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Periods of standing, walking, negotiating stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks, and platforms.
  • Walking over uneven and/or slippery surfaces.
  • Exposure to production environments that are not temperature-controlled.
  • Manual dexterity for handling and manipulating items, samples, and tools.
  • Vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
  • Ability to stand, balance, walk, and reach for extended periods.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Stand for extended periods, walk, and reach with hands or arms.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, touch, or manipulate items.
  • Stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and walk while handling cases of product.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
