What You'll Do:
  • Integration of COTS optical equipment (power meters & monitoring equipment, optical laser sources, etc.) per detailed architecture block diagrams and wiring diagrams.
  • Assistance with equipment calibration in accordance with vender or custom calibration procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with management to ensure team is meeting expectations for cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is performed regularly in accordance with documentation.
  • Maintain and operate wire bonding, photomasking, epoxy application, and other systems commonly used for optical device fabrication.
  • Maintain high standard for cleanliness, workspace organization, and reliability.
  • Program using Acu-rite control and accurately set up, and operates milling and lathe machines.
  • Press fit various diameter pins of optical hardware.
  • Maintains the tools and machines required for optimum job performance.
  • Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision instruments such as micrometers, indicators, calipers etc.
  • Selects the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Understands and complies with customer specification in part manufacturing.
  • Understands and uses a wide variety of mathematical functions applicable to work tasks.
  • Other duties may also be assigned such as facilities work, or continuous improvement projects.
  • Planning, layout, setup, operating and making tool adjustments for a variety of major conventional or automatic machines.
  • Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal or plastics to precision dimensions.
  • Checks and inspects and builds machining operations against specified tolerances.
  • May include work with fabrication, sheet metal operations, or machine hardware and assemblies.
  • May also make recommendations concerning use of and improvement upon materials and design.
Job Requirements
What You'll Bring:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 6+ years of experience in photonics, optical assembly, or precision fabrication environments.
What Sets You Apart:
  • Associate Degree.
  • Ability to set up and run a vertical machining center for one off prototype parts or production parts run.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).
  • Able to pin multiple materials together.
  • Must be familiar with Acu-rite or similar program.
  • Need to be maticulus.
