Job Overview:

The Assistant Director of Nursing for the Oncology Unit Night Shift at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset provides clinical and administrative leadership to support the delivery of high quality, patient centered oncology care in alignment with Magnet principles. This role promotes excellence in nursing practice through evidence-based care, shared governance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a culture of safety. The ADON serves as the primary operational and clinical leader during off-shift hours, ensuring continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.

Required:

  • Experienced RN with Charge Nurse experience or Nurse Manager experience
  • Oncology Certified Nurse OCN preferred or planning to obtain it
  • Chemotherapy Certified Nurse
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of oncology nursing experience required
  • Active RN New Jersey License
  • BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association
  • BSN

Preferred:

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Prior leadership or charge nurse experience strongly preferred
  • Prior leadership or charge nurse experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in a Magnet designated or pursuing Magnet organization preferred

  • Clinical Leadership and Patient Centered CareProvide expert clinical leadership in oncology nursing, including chemotherapy administration, immunotherapy, symptom management, and palliative/end-of-life care,
  • Ensure care delivery aligns with Oncology Nursing Society ONS standards and institutional protocols,
  • Serve as a clinical resource for complex patient care situations and ethical decision making,
  • Promote holistic, culturally competent, and patient- and family-centered care,
  • Staff Engagement, Development and EmpowermentSupervise and support RNs and ancillary staff, ensuring appropriate staffing based on acuity and competency,
  • Mentor and coach staff in clinical excellence, leadership development, and professional growth,
  • Support specialty certification such as OCN, Chemotherapy Certification and continuing education,
  • Contribute to performance evaluations, succession planning, and recognition initiatives,
  • Promote staff satisfaction, engagement, and retention in alignment with Magnet benchmarks,

Scheduling:

  • 36 hours a week - Night shift leadership role, including weekends and holidays as required
