Description

The outside aggregate sales representative is a key cornerstone of the business growth strategy of Knife River Corporation and serves as the primary link between the company and external aggregate customers. By blending sales acumen, technical knowledge, and customer service, this role helps ensure that the right products reach the right projects, contributing to the success of Knife River across the region.

We have an opening for an aggregate outside sales representative in Portland, OR!

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Expand Knife River's market presence by identifying potential customers within assigned territory among all market segments including commercial, residential, private, agriculture, infrastructure, and industrial plants to maintain a pipeline of new business opportunities.
  • Maintain and build positive relationships with existing customer bases as assigned and develop growing relationships with new customers and prospects.
  • Perform all sales activities for aggregates (quoting, billing adjustments, ticket editing, internal ticketing, Fleet-watcher reporting, volume reporting, general administrative support, perfecting NRL's and verifying project addresses, compiling project submittals, backlog/forecasting, and ensuring customer satisfaction)
  • Employ experience and technical product knowledge to troubleshoot and problem-solve situations, address customer questions, assist with product quality resolution and identify best product for customer needs, including finding opportunities to sell by-products or non-spec products when needed.
  • Visit project sites and customers to check on progress and address issues as they arise. Report any concerns and complaints to QC, Operations and Accounting to foster resolution
  • Follow company pricing strategies to prepare quotes for aggregate products specified on public, commercial, residential and private sector projects.
  • Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with multiple personality types under high stress situations.
  • Supervise/communicate with scale operators in their everyday tasks (prepare work schedules and assign workloads)
  • Assist scale operators with questions and be able to provide shift coverage when needed.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to the scales team. Ensure that employees receive proper training and instructions to perform assigned job duties.
  • Provide necessary corrective discipline when required to keep team members focused on their required tasks.
  • Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors
  • Performs other duties as assigned by sales manager.


Minimum Skills Qualifications:



  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • General education, GED or high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Aptitude for communicating with customers, scales & dispatcher personnel, accounting team and truck drivers.
  • Problem-Solving skills and the capacity to identify challenges and implement effective solutions for customers and prospects both externally and internally.
  • Ability to operate computer terminal and manage multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Legible handwriting, good organizational, communication, math and writing skills.
  • Must be people oriented, able to provide exceptional customer service, empathetic and flexible.


Preferred Requirements:



  • 2-3 years' experience with the use of APEX, Fleet-watcher, Smart-sheets, Excel
  • Knowledge of Portland metro market area and aggregate products
  • Strong organizational and follow through abilities
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced business environment
