Role Overview The Software Architect plays a critical role in shaping the technical foundation of enterprise software systems and integrations, ensuring solutions meet both current and future business needs. This is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for designing, governing, and evolving system and integration architectures with a focus on scalability, maintainability, security, and long-term sustainability.
Beyond development work, the Software Architect defines architectural frameworks and ensures that system design, implementation, and documentation adhere to established standards and best practices. This role champions application development excellence across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including code quality, security, integrations, tooling, and modernization initiatives. The Software Architect collaborates closely with enterprise architecture and innovation stakeholders to evaluate and integrate emerging technologies-such as artificial intelligence, automation, and modern cloud capabilities-to drive efficiency, digital transformation, and competitive advantage. Key Responsibilities * *Architectural Oversight & Technical Leadership* * Provide strategic architectural guidance across active initiatives, lead solution design discussions, and define integration strategies including third-party platforms and services. * *Design Methodologies & Code Quality* * Establish and enforce design standards and architectural patterns aligned with industry best practices. Ensure code quality through reviews, analysis tools, and refactoring efforts. * *Enterprise Technology Planning* * Develop and influence technology roadmaps that align enterprise applications with future-state scalability, resilience, and business objectives. * *Research, Training & Knowledge Sharing* * Research emerging technologies and lead education, mentoring, and training efforts to elevate technical maturity across teams. * *Innovation & Collaboration* * Champion forward-thinking solutions, challenge traditional approaches, and foster a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement and modernization. * *Additional Duties* * Perform other responsibilities as assigned. Expectations & Competencies * Apply a pragmatic architectural approach that balances ideal design with real-world project constraints. * Collaborate effectively with engineers, clearly articulating architectural decisions and fostering alignment. * Provide guidance across enterprise architecture domains to ensure cohesive technical direction. * Support teams in resolving complex technical challenges and system-level issues. * Define architectural vision for integrations, technology adoption, and system life cycle management. * Maintain clear, current architecture documentation and ensure standards compliance. * Independently manage workload while adapting to shifting priorities. * Lead and mentor development teams, supporting professional growth and technical excellence. * Continuously evaluate tools, frameworks, and best practices to improve development outcomes. * Assess and integrate new technologies to enhance performance, security, and risk mitigation. * Manage multiple initiatives and deadlines effectively. * Ensure availability, confidentiality, and integrity of business information in compliance with record retention and governance requirements. * Demonstrate strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. * Maintain a strong focus on delivering solutions that enhance end-user and stakeholder experience. * Act consistently in alignment with organizational values and ethical standards. * Support regulatory and compliance-driven reporting and partner across teams to implement effective policies and procedures, as required. Required Skills * Software & Solution Architecture * C#, .NET * Python * Microsoft Azure * Software Development * Artificial Intelligence * Agile Methodologies * DevOps & CI/CD Preferred Qualifications * Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP), design patterns, and architectural principles * Experience with cloud computing, distributed systems, and enterprise platforms * Proficiency across multiple programming languages and modern Microsoft technology stacks * Advanced knowledge of database design, optimization, and data management concepts * Expertise in application security, risk mitigation, and secure coding practices * Experience with Agile development, DevOps pipelines, and automated deployments * Familiarity with test-driven development (TDD) and long-term maintainability strategies * Demonstrated leadership and mentorship experience guiding technical teams * Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders * Exposure to emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, automation, or blockchain * Experience designing or migrating cloud-native architectures * Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities with minimal oversight Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, forward-thinking, and passionate about emerging technologies and modernization initiatives. Experience Level *Expert / **Senior**-Level* *Job Type & Location*This is a Permanent position based out of Topeka, KS. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $127845.00 - $170000.00/yr. They have great benefits (can be shared upon request). Their PTO starts accruing 15 days of vacation per year, 10 days of sick, 1 personal day, 11 paid holidays and 1 volunteer day.
