About the Job

Three-week summer research technician position:

We are looking for one person to join a field crew from May 17 to June 6, 2026, to conduct
fieldwork at the Itasca ForestGEO plot at the Itasca Biological Station and Laboratories. We will
be conducting a tree health and mortality survey in the 16-hectare forest plot.
The research technician will be joining a team of three other people who will work to conduct a
health and mortality census of 5,000 trees in the Itasca ForestGEO plot. The technician will
work to record data on the health of trees in the plot, following pre-established protocols. This
position will involve staying at the station, riding a mountain bike to the forest plot each morning,
and working for eight hours in the forest from Monday through Friday for a total of 40 hours per
week for three weeks. On workdays, lunch will need to be eaten in the field. The technician will
also help with data entry. Housing and dinners at the cafeteria will be provided. The technician
will cover their own breakfast and lunch.

90% Field Sampling of trees in the ForestGEO plot
10% Data entry

Required Qualifications:
Ability to work for eight hours daily in the field under often difficult conditions is essential.
Attention to details is essential.
Strong work ethic.
Computational skills.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: 15.25/hr (40 hours per week for a total of three weeks)
