Overview

As an Environmental Engineer for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Johnson City, TN office, you'll support environmental projects for clients across the manufacturing, energy, mining, and real estate markets. You'll perform a variety of technical and regulatory tasks, including environmental permitting and compliance, environmental site assessments, remedial investigations, data management, and technical reporting.

Your work will include both office and field-based responsibilities, with field activities such as monitoring well and soil boring installation, lithologic characterization, soil, sediment, groundwater, and stormwater sampling, hydrogeologic data collection, remedial implementation oversight, and compliance auditing. You'll collaborate with clients, contractors, and government officials throughout the project lifecycle-from site assessment and remedial investigation through design, procurement, and remedial implementation. This position requires periodic overnight travel, up to approximately one week per month.

Key Responsibilities:

    Support environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, site assessment, and remediation projects
  • Conduct environmental site assessments and remedial investigations
  • Perform field activities, including monitoring well and soil boring installation and lithologic characterization
  • Collect soil, sediment, groundwater, and stormwater samples in accordance with project requirements
  • Collect and evaluate hydrogeologic and other environmental field data
  • Support and oversee remedial implementation activities
  • Conduct environmental compliance audits and support regulatory compliance efforts
  • Manage, analyze, and document environmental data and prepare technical reports
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, government officials, and multidisciplinary project teams throughout project delivery
  • Perform periodic overnight travel, up to approximately one week per month

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Chemical Engineering; Master's degree preferred
  • Previous internship experience preferred
  • Engineer in Training (EIT)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and/or HEC-RAS or other computer modeling software
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project) is preferred
  • Solid organizational and time management skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER and refresher training (as applicable) is a plus
  • Air quality permitting and compliance experience, preferred
  • Experience with emission inventory calculations, air permit application preparation, and pollution control technologies, preferred
  • Experience with due diligence, compliance and permitting, site assessments (Phase I and II), and subsurface investigations, preferred
