Summary: Manages public and environmental health projects and outreach efforts. Posting Period: 4/7/2026 to 4/21/2026 Location: Chelsea, MA Salary: $98,087.43 - $137,144.76 Annually $1,886.30 - $2,637.40 Weekly Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm Key Responsibilities
- Researches public health studies and communication strategies related to MWRA and drinking water supplies. Works with planners, analysts and engineers in developing and reviewing project proposals and communication strategies.
- Provides external communication to public health agencies, public health organizations and water suppliers. Presents public health information relating to drinking water to the public through outreach and public comment meetings.
- Develops and maintains water quality information for MWRA's website, including current topics of public interest.
- Takes lead role in writing, producing and editing the Annual Water Quality Report and other materials for the public on water quality issues.
- Coordinates responses on water quality topics from MWRA's drinking water quality hotline and website. Maintains log of queries and complaints.
- Participates in the water quality complaint investigation and response team.
- Leads ongoing work group of public health officials from different municipal and state agencies focusing on water quality.
- Oversees sampling program and reporting for federal Lead and Copper Rule. Conducts outreach and coordinates sampling at schools and childcare facilities.
- Conducts data and performs statistical analyses related to health research, water quality, water quantity and watershed issues. Works with MWRA Geographic Information System (GIS) staff to develop and maintain water quality and customer complaint data in map format.
- Coordinates public health research efforts with local and state agencies and universities.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree and /or a Master's degree in public health or environmental health or closely related field is required. Master's degree is preferred; and
- At least five (5) years of experience in public/environmental health, water quality research, chemistry, or related fields; or
- Any equivalent combination of education or experience.
- A valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License or equivalent from another state.
- You may be eligible to telework up to 50% of the work week after an initial waiting period.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of principles and practices of public health and environmental health or related field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, researching scientific issues, and knowledge of health issues facing public drinking water suppliers.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to respond in a timely manner.

May also receive assignments from the Director, Planning and Sustainability. Exercises functional supervision of professional, technical, and administrative employees and interns.
