The Nutrition Assistant functions as a healthcare advocate performing various patient care activities. The Nutrition Assistant also performs outreach and education in the WIC office at Mile Square Health Centers, at the UI Health Hospital and clinics, and in community settings. The Nutrition Assistant is responsible for providing education and social support as outlined in the specified WIC and Mile Square Health Center program, within established parameters, and consults with supervisor as questions arise for Mile Square Health Center (MSHC) or the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Office. Duties & Responsibilities:
o Reasons to breastfeed. o Overcoming barriers to breastfeeding. o Colostrum quantity and benefits. o Normal course of breastfeeding. o Positioning and latch. o Skin-to-skin and its benefits. o Maintaining adequate milk production. o Preventing common problems. o Anticipatory guidance for the early days home from the hospital. o Resources for breastfeeding support.
