The AVP, Software Engineering - Enterprise Services provides senior engineering leadership serving the entire Cox Automotive enterprise at scale - with full accountability for both end-to-end value delivery and the health, depth, and innovation of the engineering platforms that enable it. Leads software engineering organization across Financial Platforms, Service Enablement, Data, Analytics and AI, and Master Data, ensuring each platform is built and maintained with engineering excellence and AI readiness. Engages with cross-functional leadership to understand business requirements, architecture and technology direction and evaluate alternative approaches, ensuring software and systems are designed accordingly. Incorporates state-of-the-art concepts and practices to facilitate system functionality, scalability, resilience and security, as well as ease-of-use (developer / user experience), and accountable for driving Cox Automotive's AI Transformation across the full engineering lifecycle.

Primary Duties/Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the single engineering escalation point for value stream delivery
  • Operates as a peer to Product leadership on roadmap prioritization, delivery planning, and stakeholder communication across the full portfolio.
  • Holds Platform Leaders accountable for platform health, technical depth, AI tooling adoption, and the performance of Value Stream Leaders within their organizations - ensuring delivery accountability flows through the platform org all the way to E2E business outcomes.
  • Establishes appropriate engineering operating model for value stream delivery - including release cadence, quality gates, and automated validation standards.
  • Resolves cross-platform engineering dependencies and release coordination across multiple concurrent platform teams to maintain delivery velocity.
  • Accountable for the health and strategic direction of Cox Automotive's Oracle EBS environments and leads the enterprise's adoption of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) - balancing near-term platform stability with a long-term path toward cloud-native operations.
  • Accountable for operations and support across Enterprise Platforms.
  • Develops and retains Platform Leaders - setting clear expectations for technical excellence, platform innovation, AI transformation readiness, and the development of Value Stream Leaders within their organizations. Builds a strong leadership pipeline.
  • Leads AI Transformation (AiT) execution across the value stream - driving adoption of spec-driven development, AI-assisted engineering tooling, and AI-enabled delivery practices.
  • Defines the shared AI backbone for all the Cox Auto enterprise, ensuring that data infrastructure, AI tooling, and analytics platforms are accessible, governed, and operationalized across business units and functions.
  • Partners with enterprise architecture and data solutions to shape Cox Auto's long-term AI and data strategy
  • Reimagines service management at enterprise scale, to a proactive, AI-enabled operations backbone that automates how work gets done across Cox Automotive and reduces friction at every layer of the organization.
  • Keeps abreast of current and future business, industry, and technology trends - with particular focus on AI-enabled development practices and their applicability to the value stream.
  • Stays ahead of vendor AI roadmaps and negotiates from a position of technical credibility.
  • Establishes long-range direction for software product research and development within the value stream, aligned to Cox Automotive's AI transformation strategy.
  • Other duties as needed or required.

Required Experience & Specialized Knowledge and skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 14 years' experience in a related field with at least 7 years' experience in a management role; or a master's degree and 12 years' experience; or PhD and 9 years' experience.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop large, complex engineering organizations - comfortable managing through layers, building high-performing teams, and creating the conditions for talent to thrive.
  • Experience building or scaling enterprise data and AI platforms - familiarity with Snowflake, Power BI, and AI enablement tooling (Microsoft Copilot, Claude). Experience with enterprise financial platforms (Oracle EBS) and service management (ServiceNow).
  • Demonstrated understanding of enterprise data governance, data strategy, and how analytics and AI platforms create leverage across a large organization - not just within a single business unit.
  • Experience designing or evolving enterprise service management platforms at scale - understanding how service management, workflow automation, and self-service capabilities create operational leverage across a large enterprise.
  • Comfortable operating without a single defined customer voice - able to develop instinct for enterprise-wide needs, synthesize input from diverse stakeholders, and make platform decisions that serve the entire organization rather than optimizing for any one group.
  • Strong technology thought leadership - able to articulate a compelling technical vision, challenge conventional approaches, and lead an organization through significant technology change.
  • Exceptional executive presence - communicates with confidence and clarity in front of senior business leaders, translating complex engineering topics into business-relevant narratives without losing technical credibility.
  • Experience leading or participating in AI transformation programs - familiarity with spec-driven development, AI-assisted coding tools, and AI-enabled delivery practices strongly preferred.
  • Mastery skills in analytical thinking, business acumen, requirements analysis, and technology strategy.
  • Mastery skills in building partnerships, executive communication, engaging others across all levels of the organization, guiding team success, leading change, and leading with vision.

What makes this role different

  • This role carries total engineering accountability for the portfolio - platform health, technical innovation, and end-to-end business value delivery all flow through this leader. Platform Leaders report directly to the AVP, and within each platform organization, Value Stream Leaders drive E2E business outcomes across platform boundaries.
  • Unlike a traditional single-platform engineering leader, this AVP must hold the big picture across multiple platform domains, ensure Platform Leaders are driving technical rigor and AI transformation, and ensure Value Stream Leaders embedded in those platform orgs are staying focused on cross-platform business outcomes - not just their own platform's delivery.
  • The ideal candidate is equally strong as a technology thought leader and a people leader - and brings specific depth in data, analytics, and AI platform strategy. They understand that in this role, the Data/Analytics/AI platform is not just a team to manage but an enterprise capability to build - one that will increasingly define how Cox Automotive competes and operates in an AI-enabled world.
  • A defining strategic focus of this role is reimagining service management at scale through AI: automating workflows, enabling self-service, and evolving the platform from reactive to proactive - making Cox Automotive more operationally intelligent at every level.
  • Every architectural decision and platform investment in this portfolio has enterprise-wide reach and blast radius. This is not a role for incremental thinking - it requires the ability to zoom out to the enterprise level, understand how the platforms interact as a system, and make decisions that create compounding value at scale.
