POSITION SUMMARY

The Brake Press Set-Up Operator is responsible for the setup and operation of press brake equipment in a precision sheet metal fabrication environment. This role requires solid knowledge of brake tooling, press controls, and material behavior to consistently produce parts that meet internal and customer quality standards. The ideal candidate can read engineering prints, work independently from setup documentation, and maintain a safe and efficient work area.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate press brake equipment using provided setup sheets, tooling diagrams, and program data
  • Select and install appropriate tooling (punches, dies, and back gauges) based on part requirements
  • Make adjustments to tooling, back gauge positioning, and settings to maintain dimensional tolerances
  • Troubleshoot basic setup issues including springback, inconsistent bend angles, and material variations
  • Perform in-process inspections and complete required documentation to meet quality requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all company safety protocols

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Minimum 3 years of brake press setup and operation experience
  • Experience with CNC press brake controls preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of press brake tooling selection and use
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and setup documentation
  • Proficient use of inspection instruments including calipers, angle gauges, and micrometers
  • Understanding of material properties and how they affect bending
  • Advanced use of hand tools; basic computer skills required
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Full understanding of brake controls and all related safety protocols

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Fast-paced, climate-controlled manufacturing facility
  • Moderate-to-loud noise levels; hearing and eye protection required
  • Use of inspection equipment and deburring tools
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs
