The Lead Corporate Compliance Specialist sits on the Home Business Compliance Team and is integral to ensuring compliance across four subsidiaries, proactively managing regulatory risk, and supporting strategic business objectives. This role directly impacts our ability to meet legal and regulatory requirements, mitigate risk, and maintain operational excellence. You will monitor compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, corporate policies, and ethical standards. You will advise, consult and mentor on the most complex and sensitive or high-profile market conduct exams and other regulatory inquiries. You will provide expert level guidance to business units in assessing business policies and procedures for gaps that may expose the company to significant compliance or ethics risks. You will lead business unit stakeholders by influence, balancing business strategy with appropriate risk management controls. You will act as a technical advisor to department leadership and other team members. You will report to the Senior Manager, Business Compliance.

In this flex office/home role, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from either Madison, WI 53783 or Boston, MA 02110.

Primary Accountabilities

  • You will research and interpret regulatory findings, market conduct exam reports and legislative alerts for trends and potential business impact.
  • You will guide business units in assessing business policies and procedures for gaps that may expose the company to significant compliance or ethics risks.
  • You will conduct surveys and interviews of business unit employees to determine if business practices, or absence of practices, present significant regulatory, ethical, or legal compliance risks.
  • You will lead the coordination of regulatory exams and inquiries, along with draft written inquiries.
  • You will research applicable laws and regulations and analyze their effect on business practices.
  • You will serve as an expert resource on assigned subjects on more complex issues.
  • You will complete a detailed data analysis, such as conducting in-depth reviews of internal business practices, as needed, to identify potential problems and mitigate risk. You will recommend solutions, as appropriate.
  • You will escalate issues and maintain records, as required or appropriate.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience in business administration, insurance, legal studies...
  • 5+ years of professional experience working in Property & Casualty insurance or related regulatory capacity
  • Personal Lines Property insurance experience preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance industry, products, and operation environments
  • Outstanding organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong knowledge and utilization of Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
  • Knowledge of SQL and/or other programming/data query reporting knowledge is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and responding to market conduct examinations or other regulatory examinations.
  • Demonstrated experience interfacing with regulators, writing responses and developing action plans to address findings or risks.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of business risk assessment approaches and compliance-based structures and programs.
  • Travel Requirements up to 10%.
