About the Job

This is a 40% appointment.

Duties/Responsibilities:
* This position will spend approximately 75% of the time assisting the head coach in instructing and teaching student athletes in fundamentals of sport technique and strategy as well as planning and executing practice and competition plans. Additional responsibilities may include team warm-ups, choreography, spotting, and skill development.
* In addition, they will spend 15% of their time devoted to operational duties.
* The remaining 10% of their time will be focused on recruiting and evaluating qualified athletes to the University of Minnesota.
* Assistant coaches are expected to attend all cheer practices and events, and various special appearances as the calendar requires. They will be present for all home games for Football and select basketball games as determined by the schedule.
* Candidates should feel comfortable with the responsibility of overseeing student athletes and working with them directly in a coaching setting
* This position plays a key role in the growth and development of the student athletes, helping teach and maintain strong character team skills.
* The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties in this position.

In addition, the following are expectations of every member of the staff:
* Establish and maintain effective relationships within the athletics department, the University, community, boosters, clubs, alumni, high school coaches, media and the general public.
* Represent the University and its athletic programs in a positive fashion.
* Commit to adhering to all rules and regulations of the athletic department, University of Minnesota and its Board of Regents, Big Ten Conference, Universal Cheerleaders Association, and the NCAA.

Successful candidates will assist in advancing the department's mission, vision, and strategic plan including its commitment to equity and diversity.

Qualifications

Required:
*BA/BS Degree in related fields

Preferred:
* Strong knowledge of USA Cheer rules and UCA regulations
* Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
* Previous cheer experience at the Division 1 Level, as an athlete or a coach
* Proficiency in teaching high level stunts and/or tumbling skills
* Keen eye and ability to clean game day motions and material

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $18,187.52 - $45,468.80; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
