Overview

The Con Edison Law Department, Practice Operations, Litigation Center of Excellence is seeking a Staff Investigator who will investigate legal matters involving the Company and ensure that all matters are handled in a manner consistent with applicable law and the Companys values, missions and goals.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Investigate legal matters involving the Company by interviewing witnesses, gathering and analyzing records, conducting site inspections, documenting conditions, and securing relevant evidence. Prepare witnesses for depositions and trial, assess Company liability and exposure, and support attorneys by providing welldocumented investigative findings, identifying strengths and weaknesses matters, assisting with case strategy development, and contributing to informed decisions regarding defense posture, settlement evaluation, or trial/hearing resolution to ensure matters are handled fairly and equitably.
  • Review and analyze medical and hospital records to assess alleged injuries, causation, and damages; assist in identifying and coordinating appropriate medical specialists or experts; and collaborate with attorneys and paralegals to prepare medical evidence and testimony.
  • Review social media and other databases to identify potential inconsistencies with alleged injuries or claims; document and communicate relevant findings; and collaborate with attorneys and paralegals to incorporate results into case strategy and trial preparation, in accordance with established guidelines and privacy requirements.
  • Must be available to perform off-hour emergency functions, some of which may require working extended or non-traditional hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Assist attorneys with trial preparation and provide inperson support at trial, including organizing exhibits, preparing trial materials, coordinating witnesses, reviewing discovery and deposition transcripts, and supporting courtroom logistics.
  • Participate in case review and strategy sessions; make recommendations concerning ongoing investigations; and assist in evaluating cases.
  • Demonstrate comfort with modern digital tools, including AI- assisted research, document analysis, report drafting, and workflow efficiency. This role requires the ability to responsibly incorporate emerging technologies to support investigative and case preparation work.
  • Serve as a liaison between attorneys, paralegals, internal business units, and external parties by communicating investigative findings, coordinating information requests, and ensuring timely follow up on outstanding items.
  • Ensure compliance with evidence preservation protocols, and chainofcustody standards by identifying, securing, and documenting relevant materials throughout the life of the case.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential communications.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years relevant work experience Experience in the investigation of personal injury and property damage claims or lawsuits. Experience with utility operationselectric, gas, or steamis preferred. or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years relevant work experience Experience in the investigation of personal injury and property damage claims or lawsuits. Experience with utility operationselectric, gas, or steamis preferred.
Relevant Work Experience
  • 2 years Investigation of personal injury and property damage claims and / or lawsuits, required.
  • 2 years Experience with electrical systems or constructionrelated work, including construction practices, estimating, or property insurance adjusting. Experience handling complex property damage mattersparticularly fire, electrical, or infrastructurerelated losseswith an understanding of causation, damage assessment, and related litigation support, preferred.
  • 2 years Extensive knowledge of Company operations (electric, gas and steam), preferred.
  • 2 years Demonstrated experience as a technologyforward contributor within a legal, investigative, or claims environment, with the ability to bridge operational users and technology tools. Experience leveraging and helping standardize digital platforms, AIassisted tools, or case management systems to improve investigative efficiency and consistency, while supporting responsible, secure adoption in collaboration with attorneys and investigators, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within O&R and CECONY service territory, as needed.
  • Must be available 24/7, and available to be on call and/or participate in off-hour emergency response activities as required.
