Department Summary

The Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library supports the education, research, patient care, and community service missions of the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) by meeting the information needs of faculty, students, staff, and the local health sciences community.

Position Overview

The Gibson D. Lewis Library at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Library Specialist to join our team for a role at JPS Health Network. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

- Primarily responsible for facilitating access to library resources in person and virtually as the frontline point of contact for all JPS clinical health providers and researchers.

- Ensures all requests are distributed and answered in a timely manner while also providing interlibrary loan services.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Skilled in communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelors degree or some college and equivalent experience.
  • Two years customer service experience.


Job Duties



  • Facilitate exceptional user experience by providing frontline user support to all JPS Health Network employees by email, phone, and in person including but not limited to troubleshooting user access issues, assisting with access to sensitive health information, navigating the library website, and printing.
  • Operate JPS Library Interlibrary Loan service using necessary technologies and tracking to ensure copyright compliance.
  • Assist with managing the physical and electronic library collections and participate in collection development by organizing and processing acquisition and removal of library materials into online library catalog.
  • Utilizes library systems and technology to create and edit content and deliver departmental project support as needed.
  • Generates monthly reports and other reports as required by the Library Manager, including compiling and creating statistical reports using various databases and resources.
  • Support patron use of the library including but not limited to troubleshooting library resources, work order oversight, supply procurement, and circulation.
  • Assist librarians with events, educational offerings, and related services as needed.
