Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Data Scientist for University Finance and Administration ( UFA) Data Analytics. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President & Chief Data Officer,

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Support financial planning and operational decision-making across Rutgers through advanced analytics, statistical modeling, forecasting, and data visualization.
  • Contributes to expanding data-informed decision-making across the university.
  • Transforms complex institutional data into actionable insights that inform planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.
  • Develops predictive and statistical models, prepares analytical datasets using SQL and Python, and designs interactive dashboards that enable stakeholders to explore and understand key drivers of institutional outcomes.
  • Collaborates with teams across finance, budgeting, treasury, and the Office of Information Technology to deliver high-quality analysis that supports strategic and operational decision-making.

FLSA Exempt
Salary Details $71,447 - $109,422

The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. We also take into consideration market benchmarks, if and when appropriate, and internal equity to ensure fair compensation relative to the university's broader compensation structure. Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
  • At least three years of professional experience in data analytics, statistical modeling, or predictive analysis, or a Master's degree in a related quantitative field with relevant applied analytics experience.
  • A Master's degree in a related quantitative field with relevant applied analytics experience may substitute for the experience requirement.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience with statistical modeling and time-series forecasting methods used for trend analysis and forecasting.
  • Experience applying forecasting techniques such as ARIMA, Prophet, exponential smoothing, or similar approaches.
