Position Title: Biologist III (Purification Process Development - Biologics)

Work Location: 01068, Worcester, MA

Assignment Duration: 12 Months (possible extension)

Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite

Position Summary:

This position is in the Biologics Purification Development team of the Product Development Science & Technology department at our organization. The candidate will be involved with all aspects of protein purification to support biopharmaceutical process development.

Background & Context:

Role is within the Purification Process Development group (Biologics). Candidate will support purification development work for recombinant proteins, including both lab-based work and tech transfer to pilot scale and GMP manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop purification processes utilizing clarification, chromatography, and membrane filtration technologies for recombinant proteins
  • Design and execute innovative process development and characterization activities, including impurity and viral clearance studies
  • Responsible for technology transfer to scale-up labs and manufacturing facilities, as well as troubleshooting and investigation activities
  • Perform data acquisition, analysis, and documentation in electronic lab notebooks
  • Possess strong oral, written, and collaborative skills to effectively communicate experimental procedures and results
  • Provide technical support for pilot and/or GMP manufacturing of clinical materials as appropriate
  • Execute evaluations of new technologies and innovations for purification processes



Qualifications & Experience:

  • A sound scientific understanding of protein separation technologies and the ability to explore and develop new approaches to further advance purification technologies are desirable.
  • Experience in chromatography and membrane filtration for biologics purification is preferred.
  • An MS or PhD degree in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, or related disciplines is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience (MS) or 0-2 years of experience (PhD) in protein purification process development and/or manufacturing support is required.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with AKTA FPLC, PendoTech filtration, and HPLC is a plus.
  • Chromatography experience is required (minimum requirement)
  • Membrane filtration experience is a plus
  • Experience with AKTA/FPLC preferred
  • Experience in protein purification / separation
  • Engineering-related background preferred (e.g., Chemical Engineering)
