Job Title: Float Phlebotomist II

Duration: 3+ Months

Schedule:




  • Monday - Friday: 5:45 AM - 6:00 PM (8-hour varied shifts)



  • Rotating Saturdays: 6:15 AM - 12:00 PM (3.5-4 hour varied shift)




Home Base Location:

28 Campion Road, New Hartford, NY

This is a floating position. Candidates may be required to travel between multiple sites; however, the home base will typically be assigned based on the site closest to the candidate's residence.


Work Locations

The role supports 8 laboratory sites within approximately 30 minutes of the New Hartford location:




  • Rome, NY: 2 locations



  • New Hartford, NY: 2 locations



  • Utica, NY: 2 locations



  • Ilion, NY: 1 location



  • Barneveld, NY: 1 location




Orientation & Training

Orientation and training may take place in New Hartford or Rome, NY, depending on staffing availability and workstation capacity. Efforts are made to place training close to the employee's residence when possible.


Job Summary

The Float Phlebotomist II assists with performing blood collection procedures and other specimen collection responsibilities. This role also supports laboratory workflow by troubleshooting issues, assisting with training when necessary, and recommending improvements to laboratory processes.


Key Responsibilities


  • Perform venipuncture and specimen collection procedures



  • Label specimens accurately and prepare samples for processing



  • Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to laboratory protocols



  • Record maintenance data and perform equipment decontamination



  • Update and verify patient demographic and test information



  • Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures clearly to patients



  • Demonstrate proper use of straight needles and butterfly needles



  • Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes to ensure accuracy



  • Verify test orders and requisitions to ensure correct labeling and processing



  • Package specimens appropriately for transport and storage



  • Maintain required specimen temperatures and storage conditions



  • Follow protocols and procedures to maintain specimen integrity



  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations



  • Attend required departmental training sessions



  • Answer phone calls and assist with laboratory inquiries and results communication




Minimum Qualifications


  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification (if required by the state)



  • Minimum 6 months of experience performing venipuncture in a fast-paced lab or hospital environment



  • High School Diploma or GED required



  • 2-4 years of overall experience preferred



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite



  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow laboratory procedures
