The Qira engineering team builds and tests the full system behind this experience, including device software, cloud services, and AI components.

About the Role

We are looking for a Performance Engineer to run handson performance and latency tests for Qira on physical devices in our Chicago office lab. This role focuses on collecting accurate performance measurements, running structured test plans, and reporting results to engineering teams. It is a fully onsite role due to the need to handle hardware, test stands, and controlled device environments.

Location: On-site in Chicago, IL. This role is hybrid (3 days in office and 2 days remote).

What You'll Do

  • Run manual and automated performance and latency tests on Qira devices (PCs, phones, tablets).
  • Execute test plans for coldstart latency, model response times, CPU/GPU load, memory use, battery impact, network conditions, and crossdevice performance.
  • Use monitoring tools, logs, and profiling utilities to collect reliable data from devices.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain device test stations, including OS builds, Qira versions, and test environments.
  • Record, organize, and report performance results to engineering teams in clear, accurate formats.
  • Reproduce reported performance issues and validate performance fixes.
  • Follow structured processes for device flashing, test updates, and controlled testing conditions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience running performance or latency tests on software, mobile devices, or hardware systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Technical Discipline
  • Basic understanding of Android, Windows, or devicelevel performance tools.
  • Experience following structured test plans and accurately capture numerical results.
  • Experience working handson with devices, cables, builds, and lab equipment.
  • Experience with basic logs, metrics, and debugging steps.
  • Ability to work onsite in Chicago (no remote option).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with mobile or PC hardware performance testing.
  • Exposure to AI/ML workloads or latencysensitive applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills.
  • Familiarity with device flashing, ADB, performance profilers, or network throttling tools.
  • Experience working in an engineering lab or device test environment.

What Success Looks Like

  • Accurate and consistent performance measurements across devices and builds.
  • Clear reporting of performance changes, trends, and regressions.
  • Stable, reliable test conditions and wellmaintained device setups.
